GenLovers

Privacy policy

What GenLovers collects, why, and which third parties process it on our behalf.

Last updated:

GenLovers is run by one independent operator, not a company. This page explains what data is collected when you visit the site, why, and who else sees it. If anything here is unclear, contact us and ask.

Who this policy covers

This policy covers genlovers.com. GenLovers is operated by an individual, not a registered company. For data protection purposes, that individual is the controller of the data described below. See our contact page to reach us.

Analytics and site usage data

We use PostHog to understand how the site is used: page views, clicks, scroll depth, outbound link clicks, and page load performance. This includes session replay of on-page interactions, with all form field contents masked before they ever leave your browser, so nothing you type is recorded. We do not attach your name, email, or account to this data unless you separately identify yourself to us (for example, by emailing us). We also use Vercel Analytics and Speed Insights for aggregate, cookie-free traffic and performance metrics. Analytics data is processed by PostHog (United States) and Vercel (United States) as our sub-processors.

Cookies and local storage

We do not use cookies to track you across other websites. The site sets no cookies for a typical visitor; the only cookie in use is an internal, httpOnly session cookie used when the site's operator logs into the admin panel, which a visitor never receives. Your theme preference (light or dark) is saved in your browser's local storage, not a cookie, and never leaves your device. The analytics tool described above may set its own cookie or local storage entry in your browser to recognize repeat visits; it does not identify you personally unless you tell us who you are.

Email signups

If you sign up for our newsletter or to unlock a prompt file or Discord invite, your email address is sent directly to Buttondown, our email newsletter provider, and is not stored in a database we control. Buttondown handles delivery, unsubscribes, and double opt-in confirmation. We tag signups by which form you used (for example, to know who asked for the Discord unlock) but do not otherwise track what you do with the emails you receive.

The Discord unlock

Unlocking our Discord invite uses Discord's own sign-in (OAuth). When you complete it, Discord tells us your Discord user ID once, which we use immediately to add you to our server and grant a role, and then discard. We do not store your Discord ID, access token, or any other Discord data. Discord's own privacy policy governs the sign-in step itself.

Page feedback (thumbs up/down)

If you vote on whether a page was helpful, we record the vote and a one-way cryptographic hash of your IP address combined with the page path, used only to stop the same visitor voting on the same page twice. We cannot reverse this hash back into your IP address, and we do not otherwise log or store your IP address from this feature.

Free tools (background removal, text-to-speech)

Our free browser-based tools process the image or text you submit to generate a result. Uploads are validated and re-encoded to strip hidden metadata (like camera/location data in a photo) before processing. We use your IP address only transiently, to apply rate limits and block automated abuse (via Cloudflare Turnstile), and do not retain your uploaded files or their outputs after the job completes.

Affiliate links

Some outbound links on this site are affiliate links; see our affiliate disclosure for what that means commercially. Clicking one may let the destination site know you came from GenLovers, in the same way any website referral works, and our analytics tool separately logs that you clicked an outbound link (destination, link text, and the page you clicked from) for the reasons described above.

Who processes data on our behalf

The site is hosted on Vercel (United States); a companion backend runs on a Hostinger VPS. Analytics and session replay run through PostHog (United States). Email delivery runs through Buttondown. Sign-in for the Discord unlock runs through Discord. Bot protection on our free tools runs through Cloudflare. None of these providers may use your data for their own purposes beyond providing that service to us.

Your rights

Wherever you are, you can ask us what data we hold that identifies you and ask us to delete it; in practice, this is almost always your email address on file with Buttondown, since we otherwise avoid storing anything that identifies you. If you are in the European Economic Area or the UK, you have the additional rights GDPR gives you over your personal data, including access, correction, deletion, and portability, and the right to complain to your local data protection authority. Contact us to exercise any of these.

Children

GenLovers is not directed at children and we do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 16. Some of the AI tools we write about produce adult content when misused by the tool's own users; our coverage of that fact is editorial and age-gated per tool, and is a separate matter from the data this policy describes.

Changes to this policy

If what we collect changes, we will update this page and its last-updated date. We do not send a separate notice for routine wording updates.
